Safety you can check, at every step.

How every Scholar is checked before they teach, how a Class keeps your learner safe, and what we do the moment something feels wrong.

  • Five checks before anyone teaches
  • Three people in a Class, no more
  • A concern acknowledged within a day

Five checks, each signed, before a Scholar is listed.

A Scholar appears in the directory only when all five are signed, and leaves it the moment one is withdrawn.

  1. 1

    Check 1 of 5

    Identity

    Who they are, confirmed first.

  2. 2

    Check 2 of 5

    Background check

A DBS in the UK, or its equivalent where they live.

  3. 3

    Check 3 of 5

    Qualifications

Each ijazah and certificate checked, with where it was earned.

  4. 4

    Check 4 of 5

    References

People who know their teaching are asked about it.

  5. 5

    Check 5 of 5

    Test lesson

Taught and reviewed before any learner can book them.

Each check is signed by the person who made it, with the date.

Safety built into every Class.

How we protect learners

  • Every Class happens inside NoorQuran, and its room opens only ten minutes before it starts.
  • Only three people can enter a Class: the Scholar, the learner, and the learner’s parent or guardian.
  • A parent can join their learner’s Class once the learner is in, and stay in the room with them.
  • A learner under eighteen signs in with a code their parent gives them, and the parent can issue a new one at any time.
  • A Scholar never receives a family’s email address or phone number from NoorQuran.
  • Every Class is booked from the family’s own account, so a parent always knows when it is and who teaches it.
Who can see your information

What you see, as a guardian

  1. Before the ClassYour Scholar has passed every check, and you booked the Class yourself, at a time you chose.
  2. During the ClassOnly the Scholar, your learner and you can be in the room. You can join once your learner is in.
  3. After the ClassYour learner’s Classes stay listed in your account, so you can always see when they learned and with whom.
  4. If something feels wrongTell us at once. A safeguarding concern goes ahead of everything else.

If something doesn’t feel right, tell us.

Parents, learners and Scholars can all raise a concern, and every one is answered.

No place for harassment.

Every learner, parent, Scholar and member of our team is owed dignity and respect. Harassment, bullying, intimidation, discrimination and inappropriate behaviour have no place on NoorQuran.

  • Speak to one another with respect
  • Scholars keep a professional distance from learners
  • No bullying or intimidation
  • No discrimination or degrading remarks
  • No sexual or otherwise inappropriate conduct
  • Raise a concern without fear of it being held against you

Guided by knowledge.

A council of scholars and educators guides the standards behind what NoorQuran teaches, who teaches it, and how learners are looked after.

  • Islamic scholarship

How the Quran and Islamic studies are taught, and the scholarly standard every programme keeps.

  • Safeguarding

An independent voice on keeping learners safe and on responsible one-to-one teaching.

  • Education

Teaching quality, and how a learner experiences one-to-one Classes week after week.

  • Community

The view of families, learners and Scholars, so decisions are made with the people they affect.

The learner first, and no family out of pocket.

  1. 01

    We listen

Every concern is taken down in full, and anything about a learner’s safety goes to the front of the queue.

  2. 02

    We act straight away

Where a learner could be at risk, a Scholar’s check can be withdrawn at once. They leave the directory the same moment.

  3. 03

Your Classes and money are safe

Every Class of theirs still to come is cancelled, and the full amount held for each goes back to your wallet.

  4. 04

    We follow up

You hear what we found and what happens next, within the times our complaints process sets out.

Safety questions

  1. 01How do I report a concern about a Scholar?

Write to our complaints address, set out above. If the concern is about a learner’s safety, use the safeguarding address instead, so it is seen first.

  2. 02What happens after I make a complaint?

We acknowledge it within 24 hours and answer within 5 working days, or up to 15 for a complex case, keeping you updated. If you are not satisfied, you can take it to our Board of Directors.

  3. 03Can a parent report a concern on behalf of their learner?

Yes, and most concerns come from parents. Learners and Scholars can raise one too.

  4. 04What happens if a Scholar breaks our standards?

Their check can be withdrawn. They leave the directory at once, every Class of theirs still to come is cancelled, and the full amount held for each goes back to the family’s wallet.

  5. 05Can I sit in on my learner’s Classes?

Yes. Once your learner has joined a Class, you can join it too, from your own account, and stay in the room with them.

  6. 06Who else can see my learner in a Class?

Nobody else. Only the Scholar, your learner and you, their parent or guardian, can enter a Class.

  7. 07How is my learner’s information protected?

A Scholar never receives your email address or phone number from us, and your learner signs in with a code you give them, not an email or password of their own. Our privacy policy sets out everything we hold and who can see it.

  8. 08How do you handle harassment?

It has no place on NoorQuran, from anyone. Report it as you would any concern; raising it will never be held against you.
